Addiction Specialist

Dr. Lee Tannenbaum, MD, FASAM, Medical Director

Dr. Lee Tannenbaum is an accomplished physician, board-certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventative Medicine (ABPM). He was a member of the first class of board-certified addiction physicians ever recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), in 2015.

He specializes in optimizing healthcare services to support patients struggling with addiction. To achieve this goal, he develops medical programs, creates policies, and manages clinical operations for methadone and buprenorphine-based treatment centers. He promotes healthcare accessibility, champions EMR implementation, and leads healthcare professionals to ensure delivery of proper care.

Throughout his career, Dr. Tannenbaum has successfully supported thousands of patients by overhauling business operations, advising the Board of Physician Quality Assurance (BPQA) in the state of Maryland to improve patient care delivery, and delivering keynote speeches to inform numerous professional groups on effective practices for managing substance use disorders. He has also continued to provide patient-centered treatment in his own private practice to support patients battling opioid dependence and alcohol abuse.

In his current position as Senior Medical Director at ARS Treatment Centers, he plays a critical leadership role in overseeing clinical operations for a staff of mid-level healthcare providers, nurses, and behavioral health providers. He promotes optimal treatment services by training, mentoring, and leading the medical staff. During the COVID epidemic, Dr. Tannenbaum spearheaded necessary policy modifications to move his organization to a more harm reduction focused treatment paradigm, and ensured the availability of high-quality treatments during the peak of the crisis. He focused on identifying best practices and removing barriers to treatment, which led to organizational success.

He holds a Medical Degree (MD) with Cum Laude honors from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He also has a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical Engineering & Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. During his time with Forbes Family Practice Residency, he became Chief Resident.

In addition to his certification in Addiction Medicine he also holds board certification in Family Practice and is a member of AOA, the medical honor society. He is licensed to practice in the states of Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
